Notification Appliances are the signals of an alarm system.  The types as:

• Audible
• Visual
• Texual Audible
• Texual Visible

Types are often combined as in Horn/Strobes. 

As defined by NFPA 72, Initating devices may be:

• Heat Sensing
• Smoke Sensing
• Radiant Energy Sensing
• Other
• Sprinkler Waterflow Alarm Initiating
• Detection operation of other automatic extingushing system.
• Manual activation (Pull Stations)
• Supervisory signal initiating
• Smoke detectors for control of smoke spread.
