The fire alarm is a intigral part of life safety plan that includes prevention, detection and notification, supression, compartmentation and responce. Fire alarm systems typically have four conditions, normal, trouble, supervisory and alarm. Systems are classified by the National Fire Code (NFPA 70-2002) as: - Household fire alarm systems.
- Protected premisis fire alarm systems.
- Supervised station fire alarm systems.
- Central station fire alarm systems.
- Remote supervising station fire alarm systems.
- Proprietary supervicing station fire alarm systems.
- Public fire alarm reporting systems
- Auxiliary fire alarm systems - local energy type.
- Auxiliary fire alarm systems - shunt type.
Conventional or zoned type systems annunciate by building area. Zones typically follow fire or smoke rated compartments and where required also indicate the device type (but not the specific device) that casued the alarm. Addressable alarm systems employ components that that allow discrete identification of specific initiation and control devices. The selection of a specific product for a given project is made based on the hazard expected, environment in which the item must operate, applicable codes and our past experience with the product.
